Services for Esma Jean Schoonhoven, of Piedmont will be Monday, July 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Arrington Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 – 2 p.m.
Mrs. Schoonhoven passed away Friday at UAB in Birmingham.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jan Schoonhoven; two daughters, Brenda Mitchell (Joseph) and Kathy Cross (Randy); son, Jerome Schoonhoven (Edna); 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Gail East, Diane Stephens, Linda Clark, Janet Grey, and Sharon Hottel; three brothers, Robert Lee Gordon, Jr., Steven Gordon, and Mark Gordon.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Doster; parents, Robert and Sarah Gordon; and her twin sister.
Mrs. Schoonhoven was a resident of Piedmont for more than 40 years and was a member of the Jacksonville Church of Christ. She was the owner of J&J Grocery for many years and worked the polls for the Cherokee County and state elections in Spring Garden.
